I hear a lot of people thinking that Reddcoin is somehow associated with Reddit, I have even seen people ask if a rebranding is needed due to the fact we moved away from reddit, I am here to make things a little clearer.
The coin has no association with reddit apart from the /r/reddcoin sub reddit that was used as a forum. So why “ReddCoin” if it has nothing to do with reddit?
The coin part is clear enough because its a digital coin so that just leaves the “redd” part.
Its not a well know term, certainly not by me. The first known use of the word Redd is around 1520 and the word is used still used in Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of America especially in the Pennsylvania area. The terms “redd” and “redd up” came to the American Midlands from the many Scottish immigrants who settled there.
It’s known mainly in Pennsylvania but the Dictionary of American Regional English records it widely but sporadically across much of the north-central US and elsewhere, often as the result of out-migration from that state. As you note, it’s said commonly as red but also as rid and sometimes ret. It’s usually spelled redd — not least in Redd-Up, an annual springtime city-wide clean-up in Pittsburgh.

@Reddcoin but there must have been a reason you selected it originally?
